I’m sure you already have seen the Tik-Tok fueled term “quiet quitting” everywhere by now. The idea of putting in just enough effort to not get fired, but without going above and beyond, has become the follow-on to the Great Resignation. However, the common advise out there to address this issue, may not apply to most manufacturing organizations.
Why does It happen in a production environment, and what can you do?
- Less Workers + More Work = Burnout: Many workers are feeling burned out and exhausted after almost three years of a challenging work environment. Quiet quitting behavior may be tied to the workers’ individual desire for good mental health. Psychologists argue that this approach to work can reduce burnout as workers set healthy boundaries. Don’t blame them. Look into creative ways to give your employees the Gift of Rest. This may include wellness initiatives, Flex hours and compressed/short work weeks.
- No pride for the work they do, or products they make: Strengthen onboarding process by having team members share the pride in their profession with new hires. This will help you shift your culture to a more meaningful, purpose-driven one.
- Your Local Talent pool has dried up: We all know this is a candidate’s market. You may be left with the remaining folks in your area who are willing to “work” for your organization, but do not meet your work ethic and/or productivity standards. This may disguise itself as a form of “Quiet Quitting”. If this is the case, you need to cast a wider net.
Domestic Mobility is a great tool to cast wider net.
Our organization specializes in domestic mobility & relocation. Attracting qualified workers who are looking to relocate, mostly from areas where there are less jobs or lower wages. Which means we have plenty of experienced candidates from these areas that are looking for a change of pace: a new job and a new destination. While take care of everything relocation-related. You just focus on onboarding.
