The Benefits of Domestic Relocation – Attracting New Talent, Employee Engagement & Managing Costs

Jan 18, 2023

Domestic Relocation is a process where an employee relocates to another area within the same country. It is often much simpler than international relocation as it requires fewer factors and considerations to take into account. Domestic relocation can be immensely beneficial for both employers and employees, with advantages ranging from attracting new talent to employee engagement and cost control.

Attract New Talent

Offering a relocation package on a job listing can be an effective way of increasing the number of applicants. Moving costs can be expensive, so offering assistance in this area provides a great incentive for potential hires. It shows that the employer cares about their quality of life and supports them in balancing work and personal commitments, something which 87% of employees expect from employers according to Glassdoor’s survey. This benefit may not even be taken up by potential hires however if they don’t have to move or don’t plan to move anytime soon – it is still an attractive feature nonetheless.

Employee Engagement

Relocation packages are also great for boosting employee engagement levels. Low engagement levels in the workplace cost companies around $450-500 billion each year, so taking measures to prevent this should always be amongst a company’s top priorities. A good relocation package offers autonomy over how money is spent during the move; providing social support during what may otherwise have been a stressful transition period shows that the company cares about its employees, which could lead to better productivity levels overall as well as improved morale amongst staff members.

Controlled Spending

Reimbursing employee expenses without offering relocation packages can prove costly for employers; having to go through expense reports and approve individual expenses takes time and money away from other operations within the business. On the other hand, offering stipends instead which employees can then use at their discretion eliminates these problems entirely, saving time and resources in the long run – especially when location data is taken into account accurately when establishing amount of stipends provided for individual moves.

In conclusion, domestic relocation packages offer many advantages for both employers and employees alike – from attracting new talent to promoting employee engagement and controlling costs within the business itself. Companies who choose not offer such packages risk missing out on these benefits, potentially leading to further financial losses down the line due to lack of productivity or higher turnover rates amongst staff members due to lower job satisfaction levels in comparison with competitors who do provide adequate relocation packages.
